4.2. The engine oil specification

In modern engines use only HD-oils is supposed. They represent the alloyed oils which lubricant properties are considerably improved at the expense of the additive of various chemical biocatalysts. These additives improve protection against corrosion, reduce oxidation, in particular, deposit formation in картере the engine, is improved by viscosity of oils and their dissolving properties. Clearing and dissolving additives not only reduce formation of adjournment in the engine, but also dissolve these adjournment, make small all other mechanical impurity in engine oil and support them in a suspension so they leave at oil replacement.

Quality of HD-engine oils is estimated according to system API (API – the American institute of oil). The European manufacturers also are guided by this system.

Oils are designated by two letters. The first letter in a designation – a scope: S – service, it is suitable for carburettor engines; With – commercial, approaches for diesel engines. The second letter means quality in alphabetic order. The highest quality according to the API-specification: SG – for petrol engines and CF – for diesel.

The prevention

Engine oils which are marked by the manufacturer as oils for diesel engines, are unsuitable for the petrol. There are such oils which are suitable both for petrol, and for diesel engines. In this case on container for oil both specifications (for example, SG/CE) are designated.
